Telephone North Bristol Doctors on 0117 916 2226

This service does not deal with routine problems which are dealt with during the day. It is for medical emergencies only.

For general medical advice, telephone NHS Direct on 0945 4647 You might be given advice by the emergency doctor, you might be asked to attend the emergency surgery or a doctor may visit you.

When you ring the Practice number out-of-hours (between 6.30pm and 8.30am), your call will automatically be diverted to the GP section of NHS Direct. Here your problem will be triaged by a qualified nurse and, where possible, resolved.

If NHS Direct feel you need to speak to a doctor, your call will be transferred to the North Bristol Doctors Co-operative. This service is manned by local GPs who will try to resolve your concern over the telephone. You may be asked to attend the Primary Care Centre which is situated next to A & E at Southmead Hospital. The GP will only visit you at home in exceptional situations and will rarely visit children as they can be carried.

It is a good idea to try and put a plan together NOW of how you might arrange transport up to the Primary Care Centre if you are unwell. Perhaps you could talk to your neighbours who might be willing to help you. You could always repay the favour in another way. You could also keep the telephone number of your local taxi firm next to your telephone in readiness.
