We run an appointment system for all surgeries, both GP and Nurse led. The majority of appointments should be made the same-day you wish to see a doctor/nurse. Pre-bookable appointments are available for those who either work, need to arrange transport or bring their carer, or whose medical condition requires them to see the same GP on a regular basis. We do not book ordinary surgery appointments more than 2 weeks in advance. This has reduced the high number of missed appointments.
Remember that many minor ailments may be self-treated - NHS Direct have produced a really informative booklet called "Not Feeling Well" - order a copy by phoning 0845 46 47. Alternatively, NHS Direct are manned by qualified advisers 24 hours a day. They can be contacted on 0845 46 47.
Same day appointments: If possible, ring between 8.30am and 10am to ensure you get an appointment on the same day. If appointments are particularly short for some reason, it is always possible to arrange for the GP to telephone you. Many problems and concerns can be resolved over the telephone by speaking to the appropriate clinician.
Pre-bookable appointments: For continuity of care, it is always best to see the same GP for the same problem. The doctor will tell you if you need to return for a review appointment but if your problem has been resolved, you do not need to use a doctor's appointment to tell him/her. Any new health problems can be dealt with by any of the GPs. We keep the first three appointments of the day, as well as a selection of evening appointments, primarily for those who work. If you need to arrange a taxi or lift to the surgery, then please make this known to the receptionist so that she can use the most appropriate appointment slot.
Appointments for specialist clinics such as diabetes, asthma, and CHD are all pre-bookable.
Nurse-led Minor Ailments Clinic:
